The House of Blue Hope Foundation is primarily focusing on working with education, poverty, and children’s issues in Tanzania, East Africa and has done so by constructing and supporting a residential and educational facility and its outreach program.
The idea for the House of Blue Hope was conceived in 2006 as a small attempt to help extend the gift of education to vulnerable children in Dar es Salaam who were not enrolled in schools. A small governing board of both U.S. and Tanzanian citizens was formed, and the House of Blue Hope Foundation was then registered as a non-profit organization in the U.S. to support the project financially. Funds were raised, a plot was purchased, blueprints were drawn, and construction on a facility to house these children started in June 2007.
By December 2007, the ground level of the facility was constructed, and nine adolescent and teenage boys moved into the house in January 2008. They were enrolled into schools and provided with all basic needs at the house. Currently, Blue Hope supports 19 kids through their education and basic needs. The organization provides social services, tutoring, athletic programs. Our kids attend some of the best schools in Tanzania, and they are excelling!
The House of Blue Hope program has proven very successful over the past 6 years since our founding. Five of the original boys have now graduated high school and are enrolled in college. The next cohort of younger kids will move in soon. We are looking to raise funds to expand the facility to add a second floor, which will accommodate up to twenty-four additional children. We are also engaged in partnerships with other NGOs in Tanzania, as we look toward the larger vision of access to education for all children in the country.
